The Four Seasons: Rewards of Solitude Photographs and Descriptions by Brian LeMasters [CLICK ON PHOTOS FOR LARGE IMAGE AND DESCRIPTION] I enjoy picking up a camera from time to time and shooting whatever reveals itself around me. But I seem to be most
successful when I am immersed in an area, alone, walking, watching and blending into my
surroundings. In this way, I am able to watch the light and study its effect on a scene, for it is light that sets a mood.
When time and money have not allowed me to travel, I learned that scenic photography is
a window to the world. Through the years, Wonderful West Virginia magazine has influenced my interest and pursuit of photography--almost as much as my grandfather's Argus C-3 35 mm Rangefinder. That camera became my first.
Time and technology march on. I now shoot with medium and large format cameras. By the mid-80s my pursuit of scenic West Virginia had grown to the point that I started doing my own darkroom work, desiring more control over the photograph. This allows more personal expression to enter the process. Of course, West Virginia is almost inexhaustible in its scenic possibilities. However, like everyone else, I have my favorite places. I seem to be drawn to the mountains of Grant, Tucker, Randolph and Pendleton counties. It is probably the most rugged and diverse part of West Virginia. It is also one of the most popular areas so I choose my times carefully, avoiding weekends and holidays. Then I am rewarded with solitude. As popular as photography has become, I still feel there are many aspects to these areas that have never been in front of a lens. I am an amateur. I shoot for the escape photography offers. In the primary roles of my life, I am a husband to my wife Christina and father of three sons, Daniel, Steven and Michael. I am self-employed, the owner of a small automotive repair business in Reader. With or without a camera, you might find me hiking, biking, camping or (occasionally) fishing.
It is a great privilege to find my work in the pages of Wonderful West Virginia. Make one of these pictures your computer wallpaper in Internet Explorer! Here's how: ....
